This indoor Snowball DIY is ideal for when you make promises that the weather doesn’t keep!
Did I ever tell you about the time that Phill promised Beth it would snow at Christmas?
The weather had forecast snow with some certainly, but as Christmas approached there wasn’t even a cloud in the sky – then to add insult to injury, we were all struck down with a nasty chest infection. We hadn’t realised how much Beth had taken to heart what was little more than a passing comment from Phill, until Christmas morning when, still wheezing, she rushed to the window and threw open the curtains. And it wasn’t snowing.
On Boxing day Beth went to her Father’s house. She was still subdued from the cough, sad that we’d spent Christmas in bed poorly, and it felt as though the magic had been completely missing from our most favourite time of year.
Phill can’t stand to see Beth unhappy. After she left h3 sat with his laptop and announced to me that it must be snowing somewhere!
“It’s definitely snowing there!” He said, and a big grin spread across his face.
I expected him to tell me that there was snow on some Scottish peak and that we could see about getting a B&B for the night, but no, Mr P as always, had bigger ideas.
When it was time to collect Beth, she discivered that we’d packed the car with all of our warmest clothes and bought some sledges. Then we drove our very confused daughter all the way to Switzerland!
It was the best Christmas and New Year ever. I’m not sure that another adventure like that is on the cards for us any time soon, but we can certainly enjoy a guaranteed snow ball fight with these bad boys!
You Will Need
White wool – thicker works quicker but any will do
A large pompom maker or thick card
Scissors
Method
- If you’re not using a pompom maker then cut a rectangle of thick card. Make two slits at either end as per the image below
- Wrap wool around the rectangle until very thick
- Tie a length of wool tightly around the middle
- Snip the ends to release the pompom
- If you’re using a pompom maker, follow the instructions
- As for the cardboard method and the pompom maker method, once you get to this point, shake out the pom pom
- Trim the wool to create a ball shape. You’ll need to do more trimming with the cardboard method
- Gently brush the wool strands u til you’ve created a plump, soft ball
- Repeat until you have a collection of snowballs
Hopefully, we’ll have a white Christmas this year, but if not, indoor snow balls are easy to make, lots of fun and look great piled next to a festive fireplace.
Love Rachel ❤
