Houmous, hummus, houmus. However you say it, I’m sure you’d love to taste the best ever. Store bought Houmous is OK, in fact some of it is really good, but nothing compares to homemade. And this homemade houmous recipe is cheap, quick and easy, which is how I like my recipes to be 😁
You will need
1 tin of chickpeas
3-4 tablespoons of olive oil
1 1/2 tablespoons of lemon juice (about half a lemon)
1/4 teaspoon of salt flakes
1 clove of garlic
1 heaped tablespoon of tahini
1/4 teaspoon of smoked paprika (optional)
Method
- Drain and rinse the chickpeas, but hold on the liquid from the tin. This is aquafaba and can be used as a vegan alternative to egg (recipes coming tomorrow)
- Crush the garlic and put it, along with all of the other ingredients, into a large bowl
- Blend everything together. I like to leave a few lumpy bits but you can make it as smooth as you like
- Drizzle with a little extra olive oil to serve
- Keep sealed in the fridge for up to five days
Nothing compares to this houmous, but of course you can create your own twist. Why not try stirring in some chilli infused olive oil, sunblushed tomatoes or roasted peppers.
